Learning Disability

Learning Disability

Learning disability is often confused with learning difficulty such as dyslexia or ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). The difference being is that learning disability affects the intellect.

Learning Disability is a reduced intellectual ability and difficulty with everyday activities for example doing households tasks, socialising and or money management, this has an impact throughout that individual life.

People with learning disability would take longer to learn and process information and would require help and support in developing new skills to help understand information that is complicated for them to understand and also how to interact with society.

Taken from the Department of Work and Pension January 2014, General demographics show that there are over 11.6 million people with limited long-term illness, impaired or have a disability. Of the 11.6 million 5.7 million are adults of working age, 5.1 million are over the age of state pension and 0.8 million are children.

With the right support and the right environment most people with a learning disability can lead independent lives.
